I would be using Linux, but the installer for Debian is confusing. I've tried at least seven times, but to no avail
Although I do agree - Windows impedes progress more than it fosters it. I'm only on Windows for the games, and because the Debian installer takes forever to figure out.

Just read the article, pretty funny. I run dual-boot Gentoo and Windows (Games only, absolutely nothing else) and I found that if you just follow the documentation you can easily install anything. I have also found the community and support to be much, much better with Linux, and the Gentoo community is just one of the best. I think that if Microsoft doesn't shape soon and make something of Longhorn they will only decline from here on out.

Just try another Linux distribution, there's more than Debian. Some promising distributions for beginners are SuSE, Fedora, Mandrake, ...

May I suggest Ubuntu then? It's Debian-based, so you get all the cool Debian stuff (e.g apt-get), but without the headaches of installation (though I don't find it that bad) and configuration.

Before thinks something different: I'm a gentoo user of course :D
I have tried RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE, Ubuntu, Knoppix, ... but I like gentoo the best. I do have an average linux knowledge so that might explain my choice.

Only downside to Gentoo is you have to wait for things to compile.. but you know you're getting a really good system :)

If you can make it through the gentoo install and don't mind waiting for packages to compile then gentoo is one of the best. Portage is just aweome. But if you want binaries then go with debian or ubuntu and apt-get everything you need. Matter of opinion really. I use gentoo at home as well as debian but I use debian on my production servers. Debian is really one of the most stable distros out there if you don't need the latest cutting edge stuff(which most servers don't)

I completely agree, altough one of my production servers uses Gentoo. Because of the cutting edge packages I needed and because of the speed ;)
