Hello,

I was curious about using Switchtower for maintaining a rails app on your servers. I have a test -- sooner or later to be live -- account. I configured switchtower (http://manuals.rubyonrails.com/read/chapter/98) according to the book and ran the setup rake task successfully. Can I actually host my site from a directory that is further nested in the /rails_sites/ directory? It would be in /rails_sites/#{application_name}/releases/..., cf. the config here (http://manuals.rubyonrails.com/read/chapter/98#page263). It wants to be able to do other stuff too - like restart the webserver. This is not likely on the shared host offering, no?

Thanks,
Dennis

We are currently developing a system for you to use Switchtower and it should be ready by the end of this month or first of December for all virtual hosting customers.

For some reason, that is the answer I expected. Excellent job. I was asking the RoR mailing list for help creating a task to push my local subversion repository instead of have to host it at ocssolutions as well. We'll see how that goes.

Edit: That means I have no excuse but to get back to finishing the site so there's something good to push when all the other pieces fall into place. Who knows, we may have an official 1.0 release by then.

Switchtower is really going to solve a lot of development workflow issues we have internally and I'm sure for tons of our RoR customers. It's really fantastic.

Stay tuned. We'll announce a solution soon and it will be added to everyone's account abilities for no additional charge.

That is great news.

I was just thinking about switchtower support before I came to this thread. Keep up the good work I will definetly be taking advantage of Switchtower when it is available,

I'm also looking forward to switchtower support.... I've built a little script to let me "install" rails aps but it's really kinda hackish and I'd like to be on the same, standard tools as everyone else.

thanks for your work on this rob,
ian smith
