What would you guys like to see implemented (long term)?
Good Menus
Something like the Counterstrike Scores List (if you press tab)
Round Based Gaming
Networking
Tons of Levels/Maps
Different Weapons
Different Ships
Lots of Users + Servers
Decent AI

I think thats a big list, but...networking and levels (editor) would be a good step, the rest sort of falls out from there.
AI would be extremely difficult if not impossible to implement. I worked with Robocode (http://robocode.sourceforge.net/) which has 2d physics in an rectangular arena with dimensions of like 800x600. Simple setup...anyways for our AI class we tried to make a smart team of bots.
Long story short the best you could do is some targeting algorithms (like linear targeting: you know where enemy is and their speed, shot where they will be) and maybe some smart manuevering algorithm. You might note I keep saying algorithm (mis-spelling too) that's because it's difficult to make AI actually intelligent without implementing some sort of learning component. But some "practice bots" to learn the basic commands in the game, and bots that don't just "sit" there, would help with like a tutorial mode to the game...
